The four leading industries of automobile manufacture and parts, foodstuff, photoelectronic information, biology & medicine have grown steadily, taking 87.7% of total industrial product growth, which is 3.3% higher than the year before.

■ Pillar Industries

Auto Industry: In automobile manufacturing industry, Changchun will mainly develop heavy trucks, economical family cars, special vehicles, and other new products, with an annual output of one million in quantity. Thus updating the product system, class, as well as industry scale.

Agricultural Product Refining Processing.

Bio-Pharmaceutics: Changchun will mainly develop trans-gene seedlings, new biological engineering medicines, systematic engineering vaccines and modern Chinese herbal medicines. Also, Changchun is to construct a modern pharmaceutical production base.

Photo-Electrical Information Technology: With the development and application of photoelectrics, microelectrics and software circuit technology as the core, Changchun will mainly develop liquid crystal display, laser equipment, and photoelectrical medical instrument, etc.

■ Agriculture

Agricultural Output Value: Situated in the golden corn production belt with fertile land, Changchun is China's major commercial grains production base. The annual output of the grains maintains at 7 billion kilograms. Changchun has three of the ten big national grains production counties. In recent years, the project construction of agricultural industrialization has developed quickly, based on the abundant resources of grains production. At present, the construction of the production bases in cow raising, chicken, eggs, pigs, geese, deer, tobaccos, fruits and vegetables, fertilizer free rice, poison free potatoes, and animal husbandry. The total agricultural production growth in the year of 2002 was ￥24,200 million RMB, which was 14.9 % of the year before.

■ Industry

Industrial production has developed quickly, and economic profit has increased greatly. Large scale industries and enterprises have fulfilled the output of ￥120, 210 million RMB, which is 30.6% increase of the year before, ranking No.1among the 15 sub-provincial cities. All industry has increased by ￥45,030 million RMB, which is 15% increase of the year before. The comprehensive index value of industrial economic profit has steadily increased. In the year of 2002, the comprehensive index value reached 176.3%, which is 23.6% increase of the year before. The links between production and sales of industries and enterprises are better. The backlock of warehouse stocks has been relieved to certain degree. The sales rate of industrial products was 98.2%. Changchun has maintained a high level in industrial economical products. Scaled and above industries have realized a profit of ￥8,060 million RMB, which is 37.3% increase of the year before.

The industrial economy takes emphasis on the development of automobile manufacturing and parts, foodstuff, photo-electronic information, and biology and pharmaceutical production.

■ The Third Industry

Finance & Insurance: The financial income increased rapidly and steadily. The total municipal financial income reached ￥11,020 million RMB, which is 13.1 % increase of the year before. Commercial revenue reached ￥2,180 million RMB, which is 18% increase of last year.

The insurance industry is developing quickly. The total insurance risk for 2002 was ￥254,230 million RMB, which is 40.5 % increase of the year before, of which property insurance risk was ￥236,920 million RMB, which is 39.3 % increase of the year before.

Commerce & Trade: Propelled by the fast development of holiday economy, exhibition and convention economy and tourism, the consumption environment has been improved and the consumption demand has been increased due to the adjustment and spread-out of commerce and enterprises The total retail value of social consumption goods was ￥40,220 million RMB, which is 12.2 % increase of the year before.

Transportation: Transportation and communication have realized a balanced development. The railways 85.2 persons kilometers, of which is 1% increase ofthe year before, by highways 25.7 kilometers, of which is 5.3 % increase of the year before. Natural gas transportation through pipes was 97,200,000 cubic meters, which is as same as that of the year before.

Post & Telecommunication: With the rapid development of Changchun's post and communication, the city's modern communicational ability has greatly increased. The whole year's postage reached ￥ 3,290 million RMB, which is 7.6 % increase of the last year. The civic telephone users were 1,046,000 which is 7.6 % increase of the last year. There were 2,510,000 mobile telephone users. The network communication industry developed quickly. IP users reached 98,124, which increased 91.4% than last year.

Construction & Real Estate: 2,837,000 square meters of commodity housing areas has been completed, which decreased 0.4% than last year. 1,801,000 square meters of commodity housing areas has been sold, which increased 33.7% than last year, of which residence areas were 1,608,000 square meters, which increased 26.3% than last year. The sales of commodity housing were ￥4,120 million RMB, which is 33.3% increase of the last year, of which residence sales were ￥3,350 million RMB, which is 18.8% increase of the last year.

Tourism: The tourism is developing well. Vacation tourism and ice & snow tourism play a major role in the year 2001. Changchun has received 1,507,000 persons? times with a tourism income of ￥ 5.96 million RMB, 76,000 persons? times from outside the boarders with 15.1 % increase of the last year, and domestic visitors 1,085,000 persons? times with 8.4% increase of the last year.
