Changchun City is situated at the heart of SongLiao Plains in northeastern China, and it's counties and districts are at 124'18" - 127'02" east longitude, 43'05" - 45'15" north latitude, and at 250 - 350 meters above the sea level. The city is at the center of the three northeast provinces, plain and broad, and will be the crisscross point of the third east-westward.

"Europe-Asia Continental Bridge". With four clear-cut seasons and favorable temperature in the mild temperate zone, Changchun has an annual average temperature of 5.2 degrees, a rainfall of 522-615 mm, and a sunshine time of 2,688 hours, thus being called "Spring City in Northern China".


◆ Auto City

Changchun is the well-known auto city, and she has made great contributions to the history of automobile manufacturing industry in China.

On July 15, 1953, with the cracking sounds of the foundation-laying stone ceremony, the people of No. 1 Automobile Plant started the construction of the first automobile manufacturing plant of new China, opening the new page in the automobile manufacturing history of Chinese nation. On July 15, 1956, the first Jiefang(liberation) truck of China-make ended the history that China could not produce automobiles.

Now No. 1 Automobile Plant has become a sizable base of car and light vehicle production, and formed six categories of heavy, medium, light, car, bus, and mini vehicles with 550 varieties of products. Its medium and light trucks and cars have become the major products of China automobile market, and its annual product is 1/5 of Chinese total automobile products.

No. 1 Automobile Plant is the largest automobile manufacturing industrial group in China, with 10 branch plants, 3 branch companies, 36 wholly owned subsidiaries, 16 stock-holding subsidiaries and 29 joint stocks companies, including 22 joint venture corporation. No. 1 Automobile Plant also set up 11 overseas representative offices, including assembly plants.

No. 1 Automobile Plant possesses the largest and most attractive technological center in Chinese automobile industry, doing scientific research, product development and material development. It was ranked No. 7 among 231 national enterprises technological centers, and No. 1 among machinery enterprises in 1999.

No. 1 Automobile Plant has established five internationally regional companies in Asia, Africa, Europe and America, set up 11 subsidiaries and representative organizations, and established business relationships with more than 1,000 enterprises, trading companies, representatives and agencies in more than 80 countries. The plant has maintained a wide range of technological exchanges & cooperation with the internationally famous corporations.

All this has made Changchun a world famous automobile city.

◆ Film City

The first film production base in China - the famous Changchun Film Studio, which was named as Dongbei Film Studio originally, is also located in Changchun.Established in 1945, Changchun Film Studio is regarded as the cradle of Chinese films. Changchun Film Studio is one of the largest film production bases in China.

◆ Forest City

Changchun has four clear-cut seasons, and the trees shade the whole city. At the end of 2002, the whole city has a gardening green area of 5,732.3 hectares, a public green area of 1,667.2 hectares, and a constructed virescent area of 6,575.4 hectares. The virescent area covers 39% of the whole city. Changchun is famous as a "Forest City"

◆ City of Science, Technology & Culture

Changchun is very strong in science and technology with more than 100 famous research institutes, such as Changchun Research Institute of Applied Chemistry and Changchun Research Institute of Optic Mechanics and Physics, has more than 30 universities and colleges, such as Jilin University and Northeast Normal University, and more than 700 various kinds of vocational schools and colleges. Changchun is one of the few richest cities in our country in human resources and scientific personnel with more than 40,000 teachers and scientific research personnel of whom thousands are professors and researchers famous at home and abroad. It also has more than 300,000 professional and technical personnel. Studied and produced in Changchun was China's first truck, first passenger train, cargo train and electric subway train, first electronic microscope, first laser lathe, and first fiber-rubber. In 2002, Changchun had 67 scientific and programmes, among which 11 technological research projects taken into the national research development were torch programmes, 16 were sparkle pgrogrammes, and 11 were scientific and technological breakthrough programmes, obtaining a national fund of ￥33.33 million RMB and a loan quota of ￥712,330,000 RMB.

◆ City sculpture

Since 1997,Changchun has successfully hosted the annual China Changchun International Sculpture symposium for 5 years. 230 artists from more than 80 countries all over the world and 20 domestic provinces and cities including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have contributed 280 sculpture works to this city.
